About Starstorm Network
Starstorm Network started as a journey of curiosity and experimentation. It all began when I stumbled across C*NET and, eager to connect and explore Asterisk, I set out to install it. After many failed attempts, I managed to get it running on everything from an old Dell computer to an affordable VPS in a data center. Along the way, I rediscovered BBSes and decided to revive one of my own. Naturally, I had to get Echomail running on it, which led me to find a few networks that were a perfect fit, like FSXNet.
As I grew more comfortable with Linux and Asterisk, my setup expanded, and I connected to more VOIP networks. Then came the discovery of overlay networks like DN42, and I wanted to dive deeper into how they work. DN42, in particular, uses some of the same technology the Internet itself is built on—namely, the Border Gateway Protocol (BGP). As I started connecting everything and gaining a better understanding of these systems, Starstorm Network took shape.
The name "Starstorm" was given to me by someone at a meetup, and it stuck. I'm also known as BigFunnyGiant in some circles. This network continues to evolve, fueled by a passion for learning and building connections.

About Me
Hey there, I’m Starstorm, BigFunnyGiant, or just Matt. Call me what you like—just don’t call me late for dinner.
I’m always hungry. Sure, for food—but also for knowledge.
I’m a tech-savvy nerd with a curious mind and a tendency to go down rabbit holes—especially when it comes to understanding how things work. Whether it’s old-school BBS systems, modern server setups, or tinkering with Asterisk for VoIP, I love experimenting and learning by doing (and, yes, breaking things occasionally along the way).
Some things are hard to explain—like how do I tell my mom about Border Gateway Protocol? Or explain to my friends why I have my own web-based newsreader?
Right now, I’m between jobs, which gives me time to dive into side projects, mess around with Linux servers, and explore everything from retro computing to decentralized networks like DN42. I’m not in it for the hype—I just enjoy building, troubleshooting, and figuring things out, one project at a time.
I’ve got a soft spot for the old internet, nerdy Christian hip-hop and Nerdcore, and obscure tech setups no one asked for—but I find endlessly fascinating. You’ll find bits and pieces of that here: whatever I’m learning, testing, or just thinking out loud about.
You’ll find links to my public-facing projects on the Projects page. If you're curious about the tools, services, or odd little utilities I use, you'll find them over on the Resources page.
This site is my digital workbench, my notebook, and occasionally, a way to connect with folks who get just as excited about this stuff as I do. Feel free to poke around. Thanks for stopping by.
